1926 — 2022

As Chairman, and on behalf of Formby Parish Council, I would like to express our deepest sorrow on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This event marks a milestone in the history of our country as Queen Elizabeth II was our longest reigning monarch ascending to the throne in 1952.

Following the official announcement from Buckingham Palace on 8 September 2022 the period of 10 days State Mourning has commenced.

Our flags at the Library and at the Memorial Garden are flying at half mast. On Proclamation Day when the new King is proclaimed, the flags will return to full mast until 1pm the following day when they return to half mast.

The Proclamation will be read in London, Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff, followed by readings at County level by High Sheriffs and then at local level by Mayors.

Areas outside Bootle Town Hall and the Princess Diana Memorial Gardens on Lord Street, Southport have been designated as places where residents can leave floral tributes in memory of Her Majesty the Queen.

Formby Parish Council are compiling a Book of Condolence and this will be available at Formby Library for you to sign from midday on Friday 9th September 2022.
