Joe Riley

Joe is serving his second term on the Parish Council for Harington Ward having joined Formby Parish Council in 2019 to 2023 and has become a co-opted member of the council in 2024. Joe has also been a member of Sefton MBC, where he served on the planning committee. His most recent successful personal project was to arrange for the village pavements to be power-washed, which will now be an annual event.

Joe is a journalist and broadcaster. For 35 years he was based at the Liverpool Echo as arts editor, leader writer and senior columnist.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University, a director of Liverpool Press Club, and for the past 10 years, chairman of the Formby Club.

He has lived in Harington Ward for 50 years
